Premier League club Arsenal have continued to show their interest in signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana this summer and have also accelerated their attempts to land the Cameroon Ian star when the summer transfer window opens for business in a few weeks. The London club are currently in search of a goalkeeper after losing their faith in the current number one shot-stopper Bernd Leno who has also been linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified the goalkeeper as the ideal man to maintain a starting role between the sticks for the Gunners next season and will reportedly do all he can to convince the board to sign the Ajax star this summer.
After allowing Argentine goalkeeper Martinez to leave Arsenal and join Aston Villa in January, Arsenal were criticized for letting go of such a fine shot-stopper and have been made to pay for their mistakes as Leno became prone to mistakes while Martinez became a much-improved goalkeeper at Villa Park.
Although Arsenal are very much interested in signing Ajax from the Dutch Eredivisie giants, making a formal offer for him will be dependent on the outcome of the appeal they have made over his ban from football. Onana Insists that the substance found in his system was a mere pain killer that belonged to his wife which he used to suppress a simple headache and also claimed that he didn’t know he was not allowed to use it.
Arsenal are now waiting for the appeal outcome before tabling their first official bid for the Cameroon international goalkeeper.
